Laser Treatments: How Does Nordlys™ Compare to Fraxel®?

The Fraxel® Dual laser system is often talked about as one of the best skin rejuvenation options. Wrinklessun damage, and even scarring can be quickly treated with this device. However, the Fraxel® Dual is not the only, nor the best, option available for skin rejuvenation. Here at Laser Aesthetic, we offer the versatile Nordlys™ system to give you a powerful alternative.

Nordlys™ is not just a laser but a system of four different attachments. Each of these attachments is designed to perform a different function, all with the aim of making you look and feel beautiful.

So, how do the two devices compare, and which one is right for you? We’ve put together a breakdown of how each system works and how it can help improve your skin. For more information and to schedule a treatment, get in touch with our Methuen, MA office today.

What is The Nordlys™ System?

Nordlys™ is made up of four different lasers: Ellipse IPL™, Frax 1550™, and Frax 1940™ applicators, and Nd:YAG 1064™. Each of these lasers works differently to address specific skin issues.

  • The Ellipse IPL™ uses narrow light wavelengths to address acne signs, blemishes, pigmentation, and uneven skin tone.
  • The Frax 1550™ and Frax 1940™ deliver small, controlled bursts of energy to the skin. This smooths textural irregularities, reduces sun damage, and enhances skin texture.
  • The Nd:YAG 1064™ uses SoftCool™ technology (cool air) along with laser light to treat port-wine stains, varicose veins, birthmarks, and cherry angiomas.

These different operating modes make Nordlys™ unique among systems like the Fraxel® Dual, which are more limited.

What’s The Difference Between These Devices?

The Fraxel® Dual is a non-ablative, fractional resurfacing treatment. It uses microscopic columns of light created by its 1550 and 1927 lasers. Nordlys™ features an IPL, infrared and non-ablative, fractional technology, allowing for greater treatment possibilities.

In fact, the Nordlys™ system features 21 preset treatment options, each of which is focused on a particular concern or combination of concerns. This takes the guesswork out of treatment and allows us to provide you with an effective and beautiful result each time.

While both devices are FDA-approved and proven effective, more comprehensive treatment can be had with Nordlys™. So, if you struggle with multiple concerns and want them treated within the same session, this system may be a better choice than the Fraxel® Dual.

Nordlys™ vs. Fraxel® for Aging Skin and Brown Spots

The appearance of aging skin and brown spots are all unwelcome guests. The question is, which treatment should you trust if you want to renew your skin? When it comes to skin rejuvenation, Nordlys™ and Fraxel® each have their own unique approach.

The Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 laser treatment targets aging using microscopic laser columns. These columns penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. The laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue intact and promoting healing. After a Fraxel® treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn for 1-3 hours. Sunscreen and protective measures are needed after treatment as well.

Unlike Fraxel®, Nordlys™ offers several modes and treatment types to choose from. The system’s IPL laser comes with Dual Mode Filtering. This allows for the release of energy wavelengths and their safe absorption by blood vessels and melanin within your skin. The result is rejuvenation with little if any side effects at all.

For more intense treatments, Nordlys™ features the Frax™ lasers that deliver very small, controlled bursts of energy to the skin. The delivered energy stimulates the production of collagen, resurfacing the skin over time. The surface of the skin is left intact after treatment, and there is low downtime associated with healing and recovery.

Nordlys™ vs. Fraxel®: The Bottom Line

While both systems are effective in treating aging skin, Nordlys™ can do so with potentially less downtime and fewer side effects. Moreover, because Nodlys™ is a system, it offers far more treatment potential.

If you want skin rejuvenation, acne reduction, treatment for broken capillaries, and even laser hair removal all in one go, this treatment may be your best bet.
